Chandraghanta is a fierce form of Goddess Durga, known for her bell-shaped crown and protective nature. People worship her on the sixth day of Navratri to gain strength and calm fear. If you’re new to this puja, don’t worry – the steps are easy and the vibe is uplifting.
The story says Chandraghanta fought demons with a glowing moon on her crown, showing that courage can shine even in darkness. Celebrating her helps us face challenges, boosts confidence, and keeps negativity away. Many families also feel a stronger bond when they perform the puja together.
Gather a clean space, a small altar or table, a picture or idol of Chandraghanta, fresh flowers (marigold or jasmine work well), turmeric, vermilion, incense sticks, and a lighted oil lamp. Have a bowl of water, some fruit, and sweets like ladoo ready for offering. You’ll also need a mantra book or a printed version of the Chandraghanta mantra.
Start by cleaning the area and placing the idol or picture at the center. Sprinkle a little water around, then draw a simple rangoli using rice flour or colored powder. Light the oil lamp and incense – the fragrance sets a calm mood.
Next, apply a dot of vermilion on the forehead and a small dab of turmeric on the idol’s crown. Offer the flowers, fruit, and sweets while chanting the Chandraghanta mantra: “Om Chandraghantayai Namah.” Repeat it three to five times, or as many as feels right. Feel the vibration – it’s meant to clear doubts.
After the mantra, do a short aarti. Wave the lamp in a circular motion while singing a simple aarti song. Once the aarti ends, take the offering of sweets and share it with family members. This sharing symbolizes spreading the goddess’s blessings.
Finally, clean the space, store the remaining offerings, and keep the lamp burning for a few more minutes. Some people leave the lamp lit overnight, believing it attracts positive energy.
That’s it – a straightforward way to honor Chandraghanta. The key is to do it with a sincere heart and enjoy the moment with loved ones. Happy puja!
